Human Rights Council (HRC)

The Human Rights Council (HRC) is the key intergovernmental body within the United Nations system responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe. It holds three regular sessions a year: in March, June and September. The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the secretariat for the HRC.

The HRC works by:

  • Debating and passing resolutions on global human rights issues and human rights situations in particular countries

  • Examining complaints from victims of human rights violations or activist organizations on behalf of victims of human rights violations

  • Appointing independent experts (known as “Special Procedures”) to review human rights violations in specific countries and examine and further global human rights issues

  • Engaging in discussions with experts and governments on human rights issues

  • Assessing the human rights records of all UN Member States every four and a half years through the Universal Periodic Review

AWID works with feminist, progressive and human rights partners to share key knowledge, convene civil society dialogues and events, and influence negotiations and outcomes of the session.

With our partners, our work will:

◾️ Monitor, track and analyze anti-rights actors, discourses and strategies and their impact on resolutions

◾️ Raise awareness of the findings of the 2017 and 2021 OURs Trends Reports.

◾️Support the work of feminist UN experts in the face of backlash and pressure

◾️Advocate for state accountability
 
◾️ Work with feminist movements and civil society organizations to advance rights related to gender and sexuality.

Brindar a lxs afiliadxs de AWID, sus aliados y donantes un análisis actualizado, potente, basado en evidencias y orientado a la acción acerca de las realidades de la dotación de recursos para los movimientos feministas y el estado actual del ecosistema de financiamiento feminista.

Determinar y demostrar las oportunidades para cambiar hacia un mayor y mejor financiamiento para las organizaciones feministas, impugnar las falsas soluciones y desmantelar aquellas tendencias por las que el financiamiento omite u opera en contra de la justicia de género y las agendas interseccionales feministas.

Expresar las perspectivas, propuestas y agendas feministas para dotar de recursos a la justicia.

Activism in the Middle East and North Africa

In our 2015 Online Tribute we honor five Women Human Rights Defenders murdered in the Middle East and North Africa region. These defenders worked for women and civil rights as lawyers and activists. Their death highlights the often dangerous and difficult working conditions in their respective countries. Existen numerosas razones acerca de por qué tu respuesta a la encuesta ¿Dónde está el dinero? es importante. Entre otras cosas, tienes la oportunidad de compartir tu experiencia con la movilización de financiamiento para apoyar a tu organización, afirmar tu poder como especialista en cómo se mueve el dinero y a quién le llega, y contribuir a la promoción colectiva y continua ante los donantes para movilizar más y mejor financiamiento. Durante los últimos dos decenios, la investigación de AWID ¿Dónde está el dinero? ha demostrado ser un recurso clave para activistas y donantes. Con muchísimo entusiasmo, te invitamos a sumarte a AWID en su tercera edición para poner de relieve el estado real de la dotación de recursos, impugnar las falsas soluciones y señalar cómo el financiamiento necesita cambiar para que los movimientos prosperen y hagan frente a los complejos desafíos de nuestro tiempo.

¿Qué ocurre con las propuestas enviadas a través del Llamado actividades?

  1. La primera selección de actividades la realizará el personal de AWID.
  2. A quienes propusieron las actividades que pasen esa primera selección lxs invitaremos a participar de un proceso de votación. Las propuestas más votadas se incluirán en el programa del Foro. AWID podrá hacer algunos ajustes a la selección final para garantizar que nuestro programa guarde un equilibrio adecuado entre regiones, colectivos, temáticas y metodologías.  
  3. El Comité de Contenidos y Metodología del Foro se pondrá en contacto con lxs organizadorxs de las actividades seleccionadas para apoyarlxs en el desarrollo de sus actividades.

Why Bangkok?

Each Forum takes place in a different region, and it is time for the AWID Forum to come back to Asia! We visited many countries in the region, consulted feminist movements, and conducted detailed assessments of logistics, accessibility, safety, visas and more. Eventually, the AWID Board enthusiastically approved Bangkok, Thailand, as the best option. We are excited to come back to Bangkok, where we held the AWID Forum in 2005.

Pourquoi l’AWID a-t-elle choisi de tenir le Forum à Taipei ?

Taipei nous semble être l’emplacement de la région Asie-Pacifique qui nous permet au mieux de bâtir un espace sécurisé et désobéissant pour notre communauté féministe mondiale. 

Taipei offre un certain niveau de stabilité et de sécurité aux divers·es participant·e·s du Forum que nous voulons rassembler. La ville dispose aussi de capacités logistiques importantes, en plus d’être accessible pour beaucoup de voyageurs·ses (avec une facilitation de procédure de visa électronique pour les conférences internationales). 

Le mouvement féministe sur place est accueillant vis-à-vis du Forum et désire s’engager avec des féministes du monde entier.

¿Cuándo puedo registrarme para el Foro? ¿Cuánto cuesta registrarse? ¿Qué incluye la inscripción?

Las inscripciones comenzarán a principios de 2024. Pronto anunciaremos la fecha exacta de inscripción y el valor correspondiente. La inscripción incluirá la participación en el Foro, así como almuerzo y refrigerios (el desayuno se proporcionará en los hoteles) y una cena en el lugar.
