AWID Forum: Co-creating Feminist Futures
In September 2016, the 13th AWID international Forum brought together in Brazil over 1800 feminists and women’s rights advocates in a spirit of resistance and resilience.
This section highlights the gains, learnings and resources that came out of our rich conversations. We invite you to explore, share and comment!
What has happened since 2016?
One of the key takeaways from the 2016 Forum was the need to broaden and deepen our cross-movement work to address rising fascisms, fundamentalisms, corporate greed and climate change.
With this in mind, we have been working with multiple allies to grow these seeds of resistance:
- Our Seed Initiatives, has helped 20 ideas that emerged at the Forum to grow into concrete actions
- The video “Defending people and planet” and guide “Weaving resistance through action” put courageous WHRDs in the spotlight and present concrete strategies they use to confront corporate power.
- With our animations about the State of Our Feminist Movements and Climate and Environmental Justice, movements now have creative tools to support their advocacy work.
- The compiling artistic expressions of our #MovementsMatter series continues to inspire stronger and more creative organizing around the world.
- Movements can also benefit from new methodologies on Visioning Feminist Futures (Coming up soon!)
And through our next strategic plan and Forum process, we are committed to keep developing ideas and deepen the learnings ignited at the 2016 Forum.
What happens now?
The world is a much different place than it was a year ago, and it will continue to change.
The next AWID Forum will take place in the Asia Pacific region (exact location and dates to be announced in 2018).

About the AWID Forum
AWID Forums started in 1983, in Washington DC. Since then, the event has grown to become many things to many peoples: an iterative process of sharpening our analyses, vision and actions; a watershed moment that reinvigorates participants’ feminisms and energizes their organizing; and a political home for women human rights defenders to find sanctuary and solidarity.

Second Dialogue de haut niveau sur le financement du développement
- Organisé les 27 et 28 juin 2015, le second Dialogue de haut niveau sur le financement du développement, avait pour thème Le Consensus de Monterrey : état de la mise en œuvre et responsabilités futures.
- Outre les six traditionnelles tables rondes portant sur chacun des chapitres du Consensus de Monterrey, un dialogue interactif officieux a été instauré entre différentes parties prenantes, parmi lesquelles des groupes de défense des droits des femmes.
- Les nations « en développement » ont lancé un appel à prendre en compte les défis mondiaux aussi bien que les possibilités et besoins locaux dans les interactions avec les différents groupes sociaux –notamment les femmes, les jeunes, les personnes handicapées, etc. – sur les thèmes identifiés dans le Consensus de Monterrey.

Upasana is a non binary illustrator and artist based out of Kolkata, India. Their work explores identity and personal narratives by using a visual remnant or evidence of the contexts they work with. They are especially drawn to patterns which to them communicate complex truths about the past, present and future. When Upasana is not illustrating they organise and run a queer and trans community art centre in the city.
2013: The sixth High-level Dialogue reviews progress of MDGs
The Sixth High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development, 7-8 October 2013 focused on reviewing the progress of MDG’s, and identifying gaps to be addressed in discussions on the new development framework.
A report by the MDG’s Gap Task Force launched during the session pointed to the failure to meet MDG 8 (Global Partnership for Development) as a major factor in the challenges to meeting the MDGs. The report showed that more focus should be given to developing stronger global partnerships that would ensure binding commitments for the new development framework post 2015.

Sesiones adicionales de consulta sobre el Borrador del Documento Final
- El 7 de mayo, los facilitadores dieron a conocer la versión revisada del Documento Final de la tercera Conferencia Internacional sobre la FpD a realizarse en Adís Abeba.
- A fin de continuar avanzando hacia el Documento Final hubo sesiones adicionales para realizar consultas en torno al mismo los días 12 al 15 y 26 al 29 de mayo de 2015 en la sede de la ONU en Nueva York.

Quels sont les enjeux de ce processus pour les droits des femmes ?
Le financement du développement est, pour les droits des femmes et les droits humains de toutes et tous, un champ qui comporte des menaces et des possibilités spécifiques. Le financement du développement et des politiques à visées transformatrices peut être un facteur déterminant dans la mise en œuvre des changements systémiques nécessaires pour garantir le respect, la protection et la réalisation des droits humains des femmes.
L’année 2015 est une année importante pour le processus sur le FdD. La troisième Conférence internationale sur le FdD (site en anglais) a eu lieu du 13 au 16 juillet à Addis Abeba, en Éthiopie. En outre, les gouvernements mettent actuellement la dernière main au programme de développement pour l'après-2015 et notamment aux accords qui détermineront les modalités de financement des nouveaux objectifs pour le développement durable.
L’étape actuelle du processus sur le FdD est une occasion importante pour définir un cadre de financement susceptible de garantir le financement efficace de la mise en œuvre du programme de développement de l’après-2015 et des Objectifs pour le développement durable (ODD). Elle pourrait également permettre d’aborder les conditions structurelles et les changements systémiques nécessaires à la pleine réalisation d’autres priorités et engagements, tels que les conventions sur les droits humains et le Programme d'action de Beijing.
Au cours de ces treize dernières années, les organisations féministes et de défense des droits des femmes se sont résolument engagées dans le processus sur le FdD.
