Feminist solidarity with the people of Venezuela in light of US invasion

As we enter 2026, we express our unwavering feminist solidarity with the people of Venezuela. The violent action of the United States on Venezuelan territory is an inexcusable and grave violation of sovereignty, self-determination, and international law, with far-reaching and dangerous regional and global consequences. In times of military violence, political instability and social chaos, women, girls and gender-diverse people face increased risks of cross-cutting violence and discrimination.

As feminists, we know that political transformation is a lifelong project. We reject patriarchal and militaristic fantasies of ‘quick fixes’ that ultimately reproduce violence, dispossession, injustice. Simply put, imperialism can never be a force of liberation.

We assert our support for the people - in Venezuela and worldwide - who continue to dream, build, and realize feminist visions of justice for everyone in their countries, despite threats of violence, repression, and dispossession.

AWID brings together over 9,000 members from over 180 countries in a shared commitment to the liberation of our lives, bodies, territories and countries from violence, colonization, imperialism and repression. We are determined to transcend borders that divide us, and to show up for each other with care and courage. In our everyday work, this means sustaining communities of transnational solidarity, convening people and movements across borders, sustaining our organizations with care, countering oppressive narratives, advocating for financial and other resources that movements need and deserve, learning from each other and inspiring action.

We extend our solidarity to all the peoples of Abya Yala (also known as the ‘Americas’) and denounce the invasion of their territories and the plundering of their resources. The current aggression against Venezuela must be understood within a long history of doctrines and practices devised to sabotage people’s sovereignty and democracy in Latin America and the Caribbean  in service of US interests.

This concerns all of us, across the globe. It is clear that today, we must resist a world order based on unrestrained brute force, sheer greed and destruction of human life.

We have no choice but to continue building the foundations of a just world, grounded in decolonization, respect for nature, and acknowledgement of our communal existence and human dignity.
