Our experience at COP30

This past November, COP30 took place in Belém, Brazil and some AWIDers were present to witness firsthand the commitment of several movements to defend their land, their resources and their people. However, the space has long been co-opted by self-serving actors as well.

As Marta Music describes in the reel below, we found country delegations, particularly from the Global Minority, advertised false solutions from net zero to the blue economy.

We also met with AWID members for a Mutual Aid and Community Care Crafting Workshop. Check out some photos of the day at the Climate Justice Space inside AWID Community (This link is for members only, join here to get access to the community!)

We attended The People's Summit, and marched alongside nearly 70,000 climate justice movements  from around the world on the Global Day of Action. If you want to relive our COP30 experiences with us, visit the COP30 Highlight in our Instagram profile.

But not everyone could attend the conference in person. To bring us closer together, we hosted a series of 4 talkshows on Instagram Live, connecting with feminist activists from Latin America (in Spanish), the Caribbean (in English), Africa (French) and Pakistan (in English).

Elsewhere, we also connected with partner organizations hosting their own COP30 Resistance Hubs for Climate Justice from home, taking a stance from the lands they work to preserve.
