It’s been twenty years since the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, a turning point for women’s rights organizing around the world.
While the achievements of the last 20 years have been important, the vast majority of women continue to live in a world marked by systemic inequality and violence. Overall, progress in implementing the Beijing Platform for Action has been very limited. The overwhelming lack of political commitment and financial resources, along with increasing religious fundamentalisms have impeded the fulfilment of the commitments made by governments in Beijing.
