Send in your submissions for a ‘Feminist Realities’ digital magazine
We don't need to wait for feminist futures.
At AWID, we understand feminist realities as the living, breathing examples of the worlds we know are possible. We understand these diverse feminist realities as reclamations and embodiments of hope and power.
They are embedded in the multiple ways that show us that there is a different way of living, thinking and doing-- from the daily expressions of how we live and relate to each other, to alternative systems of governance and justice. Feminist Realities resist dominant power systems such as patriarchy, capitalism, and white supremacy. These are powerful propositions that orient us toward a vision of what is possible, and show how feminist organizing is blazing a path toward justice in movements and communities around the world.
As part of our journey towards the 14th AWID International Forum, which will take place on January 11-14, 2021 in Taipei, we want to create an online magazine that documents Feminist Realities.
AWID is seeking contributions in the form of articles, reviews, artwork, photography, profiles/ features (on individuals or collectives), and more.
Who can submit?
We are looking for contributions by /about folks who are actively living Feminist Realities in the ways they express themselves (from fashion to social media), in how they care for themselves, their families, and their communities (from feminist parenting to queer kinship), in how they are shaping their journeys and crossing borders (both literally and figuratively), in how they are investigating and transforming their relationships with land and nature and in how they are defining and claiming pleasure.
We especially want to see submissions from our priority constituencies:
- Black feminists
- Indigenous feminists
- feminists with disabilities
- feminist informalized workers (including sex workers)
- trans, intersex, and non-binary feminists
- feminists affected by drug policy
- feminists in migration
- feminists from the Asia Pacific region
Payment will be 10c per word and, depending on size, artworks are compensated per image at $50USD per page with a maximum of 3 pages of artwork per submission. Written pieces should be between 300-1500 words. We are accepting applications in English, French, Spanish, and Mandarin.
Please submit by May 15, 2020
