Program Advisor with Focus on Small Business Development

Mary’s Pence is seeking a person to develop and strengthen the business skills component of our ESPERA program. Through ESPERA we partner with women’s groups in Mexico and Central America to create locally owned community lending pools. The funds are owned and managed by the local women. We are currently partnering with 7 groups in 5 countries.
This role will increase ESPERA’s capacity to support women as they develop and grow their businesses. Responsibilities will include training, ongoing coaching, sharing best practices for small businesses and model businesses, and developing markets and addressing market issues. Additionally this role will support local leaders as they learn to better support the development of business skills in their membership.
Bachelor’s degree in business or economic development or equivalent experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience with principles and practices of small businesses; project planning, implementation and evaluation; coaching individuals and facilitating group discussions.
- Experience working with women with varying life experiences and education levels, including low-income rural women with little education.
Bilingual Spanish-English required. Demonstrated passion for women’s empowerment and economic development.
Up to 75% travel, in Central America, Mexico and United States. The individual hired for this role will ideally be from the Mesoamerica region, and will work from home in the region when not traveling. Full time with flexible hours. The ESPERA staff works as a team, working closely together and with the Executive Director.
Commensurate with experience, annual contract renegotiated each year.
