Salary: The annual salary for this tier role is USD $85,000.

Overview of the organization:
The Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) is a global, feminist, membership, movement-support organisation. We currently have 35 staff members based in 19 different countries. Our mission is to support feminist, women’s rights and gender justice movements to thrive, to be a driving force in challenging systems of oppression, and to co-create feminist realities. AWID envisions a world where feminist realities flourish, where resources and power are shared in ways that enable everyone, and future generations, to thrive and realize their full potential with dignity, love and respect, and where Earth nurtures life in all its diversity.
In 2022, AWID celebrates a number of milestones. After a successful internal search, AWID will be welcoming new Co-Executive Directors in September 2022, who will be leading AWID into its next strategy and a new phase of evolving, pushing boundaries, and supporting feminist movements worldwide. AWID also celebrates its 40th anniversary since its founding where for four decades AWID has been a part of an incredible ecosystem of feminist movements working to achieve gender justice and women’s human rights worldwide. AWID is also in the process of developing its next strategic plan spanning 2023-2027. All of these convergences make it a unique and exciting moment in the life of the organisation.
The position and profile:
The vacancy of the Director of Programs role has arisen due to the current position holder moving into the Co-ED role. The Director of Programs is a member of AWID’s senior management team, leads AWID’s programmatic work and oversees the Initiatives Area. The Director of Programs plays a key leadership role in driving organizational strategy, overseeing and supporting Initiative Managers and teams, and working collaboratively with the Directors Team to support a strong and resilient organization. Our work strives to center groups led by women, trans and gender diverse people directly affected by compounding oppressions and at the forefront of challenging these oppressions. AWID’s strategy currently contemplates three initiatives: Advancing Universal Rights and Justice, Building Feminist Economies, and Resourcing Feminist Movements. The Director of Programs will have the exciting opportunity to lead and collectively shape AWID’s bold and visionary programmatic work supporting members and feminist movements for the next strategic period while simultaneously contributing to the Directors Team in overall leadership of the organization.
The Director of Programs is responsible and accountable to see that AWID’s initiatives work achieves the impact it strives for, in alignment with the overall organisational strategic vision and priorities. They will ensure that AWID grows and deepens its impact among its members and constituencies in line with the aspirations set out in the strategic plan;They will actively participate in the leadership of the organization, including participating as an active member of the Directors Team, providing valued input on critical problems, working with others to address programmatic, human resource, financial, legislative issues as they arise to ensure that AWID is effective in achieving its outcomes as well as undertaking itself as a strong feminist organization.
As the right candidate, you will be understanding of AWID’s values, and be sensitive to upholding them in the way you take up the responsibilities of the role.
Successful applicants will have significant experience in a similar role, in a non-profit feminist, social justice, or human rights organization(s), ideally, a membership organization. You are someone who understands different ways and strategies feminists use to make impact in the world (from grassroots activism, to international advocacy) and can apply that understanding to develop and implement program strategies and plans for AWID’s initiatives to make the most meaningful limpact. You are comfortable in leading complex, bold, high stake programs and initiatives and have excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills to build strong alliances with diverse constituencies and manage complex politics, positioning and relationships. You are someone who can thrive in a virtual environment working with diverse communities and movements across the globe, motivated to take on challenges and collaboratively find innovative and creative solutions. You are self-reflective and passionate about multi-directional accountability.
