Women ​Thrive ​Alliance ​is ​a ​global ​feminist ​advocacy ​network ​with ​one ​goal: ​make ​gender ​equality ​a ​reality. We ​believe ​that ​gender ​equality ​can ​only ​be ​achieved ​through ​a ​grassroots-led, ​bottom-up ​approach ​to development ​that ​is ​centered ​on ​those ​most ​marginalized ​by ​patriarchy.

Women ​Thrive ​Alliance ​seeks ​a ​Communications ​Fellow ​to ​assist ​in managing ​all social ​media platforms ​(content, graphics, and analysis), website monitoring and support, ​writing ​and ​editing ​blog ​posts, email marketing, ​event ​support, and media outreach. This is a great opportunity for those with 0-2 years postgraduate experience who are looking to enter the nonprofit sector or are in a career transition.

The ​Communications Fellow ​will ​report ​directly ​to ​the ​Senior ​Communications ​Manager. This ​position ​is ​unpaid with travel reimbursement and ​is ​located Washington, D.C. 32-40 hours per week is expected.


The ​Communications ​Fellow will ​support ​the ​Senior ​Communications ​Manager ​by ensuring ​Women ​Thrive’s ​external ​communications ​are ​on ​brand ​and ​engaging ​for ​a ​variety ​of ​audiences.

The ​Fellow’s ​tasks ​and ​responsibilities ​include but are not limited to:

  • Manage ​Women ​Thrive’s ​social ​media ​accounts ​Twitter, Facebook, ​and ​Instagram

  • Draft ​content ​and ​graphics ​to ​engage ​followers ​and ​supporters ​through ​social ​media ​platforms, including ​Twitter ​chats ​and Facebook or Instagram Live

  • Assist in making sure the organization’s messaging is on brand, copy edit and proofread as needed

  • Research, plan and implement online outreach, web marketing, communications and ​fundraising ​campaigns

  • Assist in website management, including uploading content, photos, and page development

  • Assist in ​collection ​of ​analytical ​data including all social media platforms, email lists (CRM), Google Analytics, Google Adwords, and SEO marketing.

  • Draft email blasts, newsletters, and other communications

  • Utilize ​the ​Alliance ​online ​platform ​to ​interact ​with ​Women ​Thrive’s ​Alliance ​members

  • Grow and diversify media contact database and regular media outreach

  • Compile and maintain daily news clips

  • Research ​and ​write ​blogs ​for ​Women ​Thrive


  • Strong ​commitment ​to ​and ​knowledge ​of ​women’s ​rights, ​gender ​equality, ​and ​global ​development

  • Excellent ​verbal, ​written, ​and ​intercultural ​communication ​skills

  • Collaborative ​work ​style, ​superior ​organizational ​skills, ​detail-oriented, ​ability ​to ​multitask
    efficiently, ​motivated ​by ​project ​management ​and ​deadlines

  • Strong ​familiarity ​with ​monitoring ​and ​developing ​social ​media ​content ​(Facebook, ​Twitter,

  • Experience with media outreach and cultivation

  • Experience ​working ​with ​websites, ​WordPress ​and ​HTML, CSS

  • Experience in electronic mailings, Salesforce, Engaging Networks, Nation Builder

  • Familiarity with Google ​Suite, Google analytics, and SEO experience

  • Familiarity ​with ​Photoshop, ​Piktochart, ​or ​other ​graphic ​design ​tools ​

  • Ability ​to ​take ​initiative ​and ​work ​independently, ​as ​well ​as ​in ​a ​team ​setting

  • Must ​be ​fluent ​in ​English, ​comfortable ​speaking ​and ​writing ​French -- ​a ​plus
