Background & Rationale

UNICEF is convening an Independent Task Force on Workplace Harassment and Discrimination to provide recommendations on measures to address these issues with a focus on gender-related dynamics. The Task Force will be convened and supported by a Secretariat under the leadership of the Principal Advisor Gender and Development, reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, Management and Administration.


The Secretariat will be serving the function of convening the Task Force and will be providing planning, administrative and research support to facilitate its work; it will be the primary route through which the Task Force connects and engages with UNICEF management, staff, and stakeholders.

Upon completion of its work, the Task Force will submit a report to the Executive Director with specific recommendations along with priorities and time frames for UNICEF to become a gender equitable workplace, free of sexual and other harassment, gendered disadvantage and discrimination.

In this context, the Gender Section is recruiting a consultant to support the work of the Task Force for 3-6 months.

Expected results and activities

 The main tasks of the Task Force Project Coordinator involve:

  1. Providing research support on development of the Task Force;
  2. Supporting the Principal Advisor and the Project Manager in developing and managing a project plan;
  3. Coordinating activities in relation to an internal reference group, and provide support to the Task Force members;
  4. Carrying out necessary research and compilation of data, documents and analysis requested by the Task Force;
  5. Supporting the Project Lead in compiling notes, recommendations etc. that the Task Force produces;
  6. Interacting and liaising with high level internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis and supporting effective communication platforms.

Key competences, technical background, and experience required

  • Advanced university degree in social sciences, management, gender, public health, business, communications;
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Knowledge of UNICEF work culture and systems;
  • Very strong writing and communication skills;
  • Exceptional relationship and project management skills; highly organized
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced multitasking environment;
  • Ability to work on web and other communications platforms
  • Strong interest in gender equality in the workplace.

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.  

At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
