Conflict in Myanmar: Structural Drivers and Gendered Impacts

Conflict in Myanmar - CSW62 event

We invite you to a discussion on the complex structural drivers of conflict and military repression in Myanmar; the nature of the impact on women and girls, and minority ethnic communities; and the responses of women human rights defenders (WHRDs).

This event will shed light on the complex backdrop that lies behind the terrible scenes of violence and displacement of members of the Rohingya ethnic community, which have been broadcast across the world in recent months. It aims to make the links between gender, militarism, extractivism and economic injustice, and the resurgence of Buddhist ethno-nationalism in Myanmar.

We will hear from WHRDs their hopes for their country, and what action they are calling for from the international community.
