A prominent female lawyer from Russia's troubled Republic of Daghestan has received the Per Anger Prize in the Swedish city of Gothenborg.

Formed to challenge the lack of women’s representation in the Indonesian government, the Balcony Faction has become a powerful platform for getting women to speak out directly to legislators in session. Protesting from the balcony of Parliament, Indonesian women are making it impossible for Parliamentarians to ignore their advocacy demands.

'Not your Grandma’s CEDAW,' is what a friend wrote on my Facebook wall when I referenced a recent meeting to evaluate Chile’s compliance with an international treaty condemning violence against women.

More than 110 women from over 50 different national and local Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s) and networks from across 19 regions of Tanzania, (Mainland and Zanzibar) whose work focuses on women’s rights, met at the Blue Pearl Hotel, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on the 22-24 October 2012, to discuss women’s rights issues as they relate to on going processes of developing a new constitution of the Republic of Tanzania. 

In a first of its kind initiative, more than forty Syrian women from all walks of social and political life, convened a working seminar in Cairo to form the “Syrian Women’s Forum for Peace” between October 30 and November 1 2012.

The Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament has claimed the country’s notorious Anti-Homosexuality Bill will soon be passed by lawmakers.

According to reports published on the site of the reformist website Kalame, 9 more female prisoners in Evin Prison in Tehran, have launched a hunger strike to protest mistreatment by prison guards, including storming of the prison, inappropriate search of the premises and physical search of the women.
