The Institute for Gender and Development Studies is based in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It aims to improve the relationship between sexes and give voice to their differing issues as well as shape policies affecting gender relationships. The Institute focuses on research and outreach. Additionally, the institute also works on domestic violence and the underrepresentation of women in areas of governance and is carving out new areas of studies to challenge old ways of thinking that are discriminatory. The institute is dedicated to accelerating social and economic progress in low and middle income countries. To further these aims and stimulate positive change the institute provides policy analysis, critical information, decision-making tools, and policy advice to governments, civil society organizations and international funders. With expertise in many areas including experience in economics and finance, health policy, education, and governance, the Institute for Gender and Development Studies works with leaders, globally and at the national level, in order to design and test solutions to some of the world’s biggest development challenges.
