Sohela Nazneen was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She holds an MA in Gender and Development and a PhD in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex, UK. Sohela is an associate professor at the Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, where she teaches gender in international relations and international political economy. For the last three years, she has worked as a Research Fellow for the Pathways of Women’s Empowerment research program consortium based at the BRAC Development Institute in Bangladesh. Her research focuses on institutional analysis of gender, particularly on NGO management practices, governance and livelihood issues. Her recent work for BDI includes feminist movement building in transitional contexts; impact of changes in aid structures on women’s rights organizations and women’s participation in Islamic movements. Sohela has conducted research consultancies for UNDP, UN Women, the Gates Foundation and various other international agencies. Her dream is to promote women’s rights and gender equality through research, teaching and policy advocacy.
