Ifeoma Anene recently won AWIDs raffle for a flight to AWIDs International Forum on Transforming Economic Power to Advance Women’s Rights and Justice. The Forum will gather up to 2000 women’s rights leaders and activists from around the world from April 19 to 22, 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey. And Ifeoma is looking forward to being an active participant in the forum and to learning and sharing her experiences in advancing women’s rights in Nigeria.
Ifeoma holds a Bachelors’ degree in Political Science (B.Sc) from Nnamdi Azkiwe University Awka and a Master’s degree in International Relations (M.Sc) from the University of Abuja, both in Nigeria. She is actively involved in the civil society movement particularly in the areas of community development ranging from human rights, to poverty alleviation programs and HIV/AIDS. In the course of her development work, Ifeoma worked as a Program Manager for Catholic Relief Services in a Community Care and Support Program for People Living with HIV (PLHIV), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC). Additionally, she facilitated the implementation of a rural based Micro-Finance Program called “Savings and Internal Lending Communities”, targeting the poorest population and rural women. The program is aimed at enabling, what she refers to, as the economically active poor and particularly women to develop their own reliable financial services within their communities. Ifeoma was an individual Contractor/Community facilitator for UNDP Niger - Delta Local Development Programme on Poverty Alleviation. She was also a Program Intern with Global Rights where she researched and advocated on Sexuality and Human Rights and Electoral Mandate Protection. Ifeoma’s goal is to be a Community Development Specialist.
