Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark: Campaign: MDG3 Global Call to Action

Half-way to 2015 we are still far from achieving the eight Millennium Development Goals to halve extreme poverty, which range from providing universal primary care to environmental sustainablility. We need to get on track.

This campaign - MDG3 Global Call to Action – focuses on the third Millennium Development Goal (MDG 3) on gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.

They are rights and must therefore be reached. At the same time gender equality and economic empowerment are also a central means for reaching all the other MDGs.

Therefore it is important to raise awareness and accelerate progress for achieving the eight Millennium Development Goals.

A website, MDG3action.org, has been created as a platform for action, a meeting place for the active.

Here you can find a great deal of information on the struggle for equality and women’s economic empowerment. You will also find film, debate and many links to references and sources where you can read even more.

MDG3action.org is a forum for action. Together we can promote equality between men and women and women’s economic empowerment. All actors in the global community have a responsibility for ensuring a joint success.

To do this it is necessary for many active participants – to exert an extra effort to carry the torch and pass it on to others. The Torch Campaign is a vital part of the MDG3 action. It will generate over 100 commitments to do something extra.

You can take an initiative whereever you are. You can choose a torch idea about how you can make an extra contribution. And in the debate section you can contribute serveral ideas.

All can contribute. Large and small. From North to South. From governmental organisations to companies and businesses, individuals, interest or advocacy organisations, etc.. You can register your commitment directly on the website.

On the website we collect reports on the results from the many commitments – as inspirations to encourage even more commitments.

On MDG3action.org you can also read about the network, which is a frontrunner in raising awareness the world over and advocating gender equality and women’s empowerment within their own sphere of influence. You can also read about the conference in Copenhagen, which defined actions needed to accelerate women’s economic empowerment.
