Organized Dissonance as Hybrid Form: Alternatives to Bureaucracy from Feminist Organization
Feminist bureaucracy responds to a historical tension between feminist theorists and practitioners by merging opposed models of power. Through qualitative analysis, this analysis examines the novelty and viability of feminist-bureaucratic power in practice.
The form enriches management scholarship by exposing a distinct class of hybrid I term “organized dissonance.” Such a hybrid upsets the conventional view that rationality requires resolution; it suggests the potential of strategic incongruity among paired forms. It also underscores the structure-practice and partner-environment relationships and reveals the private as a ubiquitous dimension of organization.
