As a UK registered charity founded in 1982, INTERIGHTS works to protect and promote human rights through the use of law, in particular strategic litigation, through its regional and thematic work. INTERIGHTS complements this litigation with legal capacity building and standard setting activities and by publishing and disseminating legal information.

Through all of these activities, we seek both to promote the enforcement of human rights standards at international, regional and domestic levels and to empower legal partners around the world to do the same.

As executive director you will provide leadership for the organisation, playing a key role in setting its mission and strategies; developing policies and programmes; providing vision re INTERIGHTS’ role within the human rights movement; and ensuring that the organisation’s short and long-term objectives are realised within the framework of its mandate and values.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Providing the organisation with professional leadership;
  • taking charge of strategic planning;
  • supervising and directing staff and organisational management;
  • overseeing fiscal planning and fundraising;
  • liaising with the Board of Directors and the Advisory Council; and
  • overseeing the organisation’s external communications.

You will be responsible to Interights’ Board and work in collaboration with the Board’s Management and Staffing Committees.

Profile:

  • The position requires profound understanding of international human rights issues and working knowledge of international and comparative human rights law (although formal legal qualifications are not required).
  • You must also have substantial experience of management (including at a senior level);
  • Knowledge of fundraising and financial management;
  • Sensitivity to working in a multicultural environment and commitment to promoting respect for equality and diversity; and
  • Experience in developing and maintaining high level professional relationships and partnerships.
  • French speakers are at a strong advantage; Arabic or Russian are also desirable.
