WOMEN'S RIGHTS INFORMATION

Background

Since its inception AWID has been a consistent provider of engaging, high quality, strategic information on women’s human rights and gender and development issues. Through the different information services provided by the Women’s Rights Information team, such as jobs and announcements, news and in-depth analysis, AWID contributes to building knowledge and understanding of the forces that undermine women’s human rights and amplifies the voices of women’s rights advocates and organizations in articulating strategies to address them.

What we hope to achieve

  • To enhance understanding of the factors effecting women’s rights globally.
  • To shift discourse and institutional attention towards new and emerging women’s rights issues.
  • To expand the agenda of women’s movements internationally so that the issues of women working at the margins of the movement - such as women with disabilities, young women, migrant and refugee women and indigenous women - become more central.
  • To increase the sharing of information between diverse sectors and regions of women’s movements.
  • To enhance understanding of the relevance of women’s human rights issues to the concerns of broader social movements.

Activities in 2007-2008

  • Providing weekly information on jobs and career opportunities, new resources, events and news in the field of women’s human rights and development to members and subscribers in English, Spanish and French.
  • Producing weekly analysis of the forces that undermine or promote women’s human rights globally to members and subscribers in English, Spanish and French.
  • Amplifying the voices and perspectives of young feminist activists and women’s rights advocates from indigenous rights and disability rights movements through interviews and analysis.
  • Strengthening information sharing with mainstream human rights and development organizations and movements.
