Who makes the news? Not who you think, as shown by the research of the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP), the flagship news media research project of the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC). The GMMP is the largest research and advocacy initiative in the world aimed at fair and balanced gender representation in and through the news media.

The Network of East-West Women (NEWW), Kretinga Women’s Information and Training Center, The Women’s Shelter of Karlshamn and Blagosemya from Kaliningrad have started a two year project in May 2009 to address the problems and challenges of domestic violence specific to the South Baltic.

The Global Report on Women in the News Media is examining the structure of the news media industry worldwide from a gender perspective in order to document the career progress of women and use the results to advocate for change. Launched in 2009, this ground-breaking research will document where women stand in professional, decision-making and governance levels in the media industry. Research will be conducted in 2009, with an anticipated publication date of spring 2010.
