New Resource: Kenya Human Rights Commission: The Outlawed Amongst Us
The KHRC has always worked with minority, marginalized and disadvantaged groups to enable them, in their own way, articulate, defend and realize their human rights be they civil, political, economic, social and cultural. One such group is Kenya’s LGBTI community which includes gender and sexual minorities, that is, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) persons. The KHRC and LGBTI Organizations’ continue to receive cases of human rights abuses against the LGBTI persons.

A New Resource: Roj Women's Association: "A Woman's Struggle: Using Gender Lenses to Understand the Plight of Women Human Rights Defenders in Kurdish Regions of Turkey"
This report explores the hitherto untold experiences of women human rights defenders in East and South East Turkey, a burning issue. As in other situations of violent conflict and gendered and ethnic oppression, women in the Kurdish region of Turkey have been disproportionately affected from curtailed access to education, decent employment, loss of livelihoods.

The Mapping Digital Media project examines the global opportunities and risks created by the transition from traditional to digital media. Covering 60 countries, the project examines how these changes affect the core democratic service that any media system should provide: news about political, economic, and social affairs. There is a strong appetite for digital media in Turkey...The most significant threat to news diversity and quality remains the repressive legal restrictions under which journalists operate. If anything, this has intensified in response to the rise of digital media. Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code, makes it illegal to insult Turkey and national identity and has been used as a cover for internet censorship.

This publication features the experiences of five Oxfam partner organizations in promoting women’s political and economic empowerment and leadership. While each of the organizations operates in its own unique environment and has its own approach, there are a number of common themes. After a general look at the context in which women live, the publication moves on to what leadership means and how to achieve it. Attention is given to working within existing institutions and cultural norms, and also to creating new institutions.
