Due to the financialization of everyday life, the financial crisis had a deep impact on many different people’s lives. The crisis hit the industry hard, which especially left male workers in these sectors of the economy unemployed.
Consequently many women find themselves in the challenging situation of being the sole contributor to the family income.
Brigitte Young explains the mechanisms behind the current crisis and how they affect many women worldwide. She also presents a recent study (Montgomery/Young, 2009), which looks at the discriminating practises of granting loans to women.
