"What's the point of the revolution if I cannot dance?" This phrase, inspired by a quote from the 19th century Russian feminist Emma Goldman, takes on a full meaning for women who aspire to freely control their own bodies. This is the reason that the Mediterranean Women's Fund decided to make the theme of the 2012 competition the bodies of women in motion in the Mediterranean basin. Deadline for submissions: May 30, 2012.

CEDES and IDRC are launching a competitive Call for Proposals for research teams to conduct four country studies. The selected teams will undertake policy-oriented research on the linkages between the demographic transition and financial constraints in four systemically important developing countries. The country studies are part of a global research project on Asymmetric Demography and Global Financial Governance.Deadline for proposal/expressions of interest: June 30, 2012.

In partnership with the Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO), World Pulse is collecting personal stories from women around the world outlining their experiences and recommendations on sustainable and equitable development for presentation at the Rio +20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. Deadline for submissions: June 3, 2012.

On 28 April 2012 journalist and human rights defender Ms Regina Martínez Pérez was found dead in her home in the city of Xalapa, in Veracruz. Regina Martínez Pérez was a correspondent with the weekly publication Proceso in which she addressed issues relating to drug cartels and the links between organised criminal groups and government officials.

The UK’s Girls’ Education Challenge will support NGOs, charities and the private sector who can find better ways to provide education opportunities to marginalised girls in the poorest countries in Africa and Asia. The first round of funding will be open across nine priority countries: Afghanistan, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. This window of funding, called the Step Change Window, will be open to receive project concept notes from 1 May 2012.

Interested indigenous and local community organizations from the countries of the Latin-American and Caribbean region are invited to nominate representatives and trainers to participate in regional workshops for indigenous and local community representatives. Deadline for nominations: May 27, 2012.

Designed as a comprehensive curriculum on sexuality, sexual and reproductive health and rights with an in-depth discussion on the linkages between research and practice, the CSBR Sexuality Institute offers a holistic interdisciplinary program combining history, theory, research and politics of sexuality with applications of advocacy and fieldwork. Deadline for applications: May 20, 2012. 

On the occasion of the upcoming UNCSD Conference in Rio (RIO+20), five Women’s Rio+20 Good Practices will be awarded and invited to present their initiatives at the UN summit in Brazil. The awards are sponsored by the GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation) and organised by WECF (Women in Europe for a Common Future - Women International for a Common Future) in cooperation with UNEP, the Network of Women Ministers and Leaders of the Environment and the Women’s Major Group core members VAM, WEDO, ENERGIA, DAWN and Global Forest Coalition. Deadline for applications: May 17, 2012.

Contributors from the African continent and other developing countries are invited to write on the topic Ageing and/or Intergenerationality, in its broad feminist or gender contexts, from either a research or an activism perspective. Abstracts and contributions must be written in English and in a style accessible to a wide audience. Deadline for abstracts: May 31, 2012.
