Institutional Member: Equitas Benin (Network of the Educators to the Human Rights)
Every two weeks we profile a different institutional AWID member. If you would like to be profiled here, please send your biographical information to membership@awid.org
Equitas Benin is non-partisan and non-profit organization. This non-governmental organization was established in 2010 by a group of participants in the International Training Programme for Human Rights (IHRTP) organized by the International Training Centre for Human Rights (EQUITAS-CANADA). Equitas-Benin is working towards achieving equality, social justice and respect for human dignity in Benin and around the world. Its mission is to contribute towards these achievements through education in citizenship and human rights. The organization also aims to bring together all of those working for human rights so that they may share, organize and cooperate with each other to put their actions into practice. Equitas programs interpret international, regional and domestic human rights standards into highly effective tools for empowerment particularly for marginalized or vulnerable groups. The Equitas approach to human rights education opens important avenues for all groups in society to participate in decision-making processes and to hold governments accountable for actions or inactions that contribute to human rights violations.
