Rumbidzai Caroline

Every week we profile a different individual AWID member. If you would like to be profiled here, please send your biographical information to membership@awid.org

Rumbidzai Caroline Marikopo was born in Zimbabwe. She holds a BSc Degree from the University of Zimbabwe. In 2006, along with some friends, she formed a youth focused organization called Young Knights. Through her work Rumbidzai began to be exposed to the life experiences of her peers in their diversity. Today, the main focus of Young Knights is to support marginalized youth. In 2011, the organization started collaborating with some other institutions in support of children infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. Rumbidzai’s passion is to support young women ensuring they are given all resources they need to achieve their goals and reach their full potential. She believes that we still live in a largely male-dominated society and that due to some cultural practices and fear of change women are still a disadvantaged group. For her, it is therefore important to teach young women that regardless of who we are or where we come from we must continue to strive for better conditions.
